Wilderness Photography and Life Portraits

Edward Abbey, in protest of Arches National Park getting paved roads, wrote, “You can’t see anything from a car, you’ve got to get out of the contraption and walk, better yet crawl, on hands and knees, over the sandstone and through the thornbrush and cactus. When traces of blood begin to mark your trail you’ll see something, maybe.”

I disagree with Edward Abbey on some ideas but this is one that rings with truth. Wilderness, to be appreciated, must be experienced.

My hope goes beyond the sale of my work. My hope is that I will inspire others to go out, even if it is for a moment in an already busy and full life, and experience the creation. Leave your car and walk a trail, climb a boulder or hike to the other side of the mountain. In this is the amazing freedom of not being in control for a moment of your life. Instead of shaping the world to fit you, you gain the ability to submerge yourself into a living landscape and be part of something greater than one life and make that life greater in the process.

Another quote I appreciate greatly, by an unknown photographer, is, “I meet God at the end of my lens.” If you believe in the creation then to experience it will give you a fuller understanding of the Creator and grow in you, the realization, Daddy has made an amazing world for us to experience.

Though you may believe the wilderness is a lonely place it is wonderful the people you meet there. I have made life long friends that I have met during a one week outing. Because of this I took up rock climbing and the portrait work I do has changed. My studio lights gather dust and my portraits are life moments, not stiff and unnatural.

I hope you enjoy my work and if there is anything to your liking then feel free to contact me through the website or email. I charge by the hour for portraiture, plus expenses. For this you receive the finished edited images in a digital format and full copyright release. I can have prints processed for you, for additional fees, or you can have them processed yourself at any number of places.

My wilderness work can be processed in many ways ie; collages, canvas, posters and in many sizes.
